Drumheller TMJ

If you’re experiencing recurrent pain in the jaw, a click or popping noise when you open your mouth, and changes in your bite pattern, you might have TMJ disorder, a common ailment with a range of severity and accompanying treatment options.
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, the ball-and-socket joint that connects the jaw to the skull on either side. The joint is, of course, heavily used, as we open and close our mouths both for eating and talking, so the area is prone to developing issues and can also be impacted by injury, bruxism, arthritis, or a bite problem. The first symptom of TMJ disorder is normally pain and soreness in the jaw, and varies in severity depending on the issue. In some cases, the joint can slip in and out of place, causing problems with chewing and talking as well as pain.
Treatment for TMJ disorder depends on the individual’s symptoms, but could include a mouth guard, jaw adjustments, Botox, or at-home remedies like compresses or jaw exercises. First, your TMJ will be diagnosed via dental examination and x-rays of the joint. Then we’ll work with you to develop a treatment plan that works for you and your particular symptoms.
